West Side Campaign Against Hunger
West Side Campaign Against Hunger alleviates hunger by ensuring that all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.
West Side Campaign Against Hunger is rooted in three core values – Dignity, Community, and Choice – and we incorporate them into all aspects of our work. We value our community and ensure that all customers are treated with dignity and respect. WSCAH has been at the forefront of innovation for 40 years, developing the first customer-choice supermarket style pantry in the United States. WSCAH offers healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, protein, and dairy where customers can choose which foods best suit their diets and lifestyles.
Values
FOOD: WSCAH believes in access to healthy food for all people. We believe that the opposite of hunger is not fullness, but health.
INCOME: WSCAH believes that the most dignified and empowering solution to hunger is income generation. With a living wage job or living benefit our customers will become self-sufficient and phase out of the emergency food system.
HOUSING: WSCAH believes that adequate housing is a human necessity, and no person should be forced to choose between food and shelter.
HEALTH CARE: WSCAH believes that health care is a human right, not a privilege. Prevention of illness is the primary goal both because it will prevent human suffering and be fiscally responsible in the long term.
