Center for Community Engaged Learning: Social Justice Resources
We will employ the Urban Plunge program as a transformative method to train undergraduate student leaders, and will seek to offer the anti-racist trainings that were previously specific to Urban Plunge Assistants more broadly. In particular, we will extend the functionality of Racial Caucusing/Healing Circles to support our other programs and engage a wider group of students.
We will explicitly incorporate anti-racist training and pedagogy into our Faculty Workgroups as they prepare to build partnerships with Community Leaders and teach Community Engaged Learning courses.
We commit to standing in solidarity with our global community through our Global Outreach program, preparing students for immersive experiences that delve into issues of poverty and injustice, from where we support our actionable scholars to act for the common good.
We will dive into deeper kinship and collaboration with the various Faith leaders and communities of worship in the neighborhoods in which we are situated, and draw upon the strengths of our mutual desires for increased spiritual communion, peacebuilding, meaning-making, and solidarity as we seek to better serve those around us.
We will engage and properly compensate speakers, presenters, workshop facilitators, and panelists who represent BIPOC voices from our surrounding neighborhoods and communities, and who challenge us to stay true to our commitment to social justice.
We will uplift community voices, highlight and patronize locally-owned BIPOC businesses, and create sustainable projects alongside our Community Partners that are rooted in asset-based community development.
We will create an evolving directory of shareable resources that further the engagement, education, and action of all our constituents.
We will work closely with other University departments who are also deeply engaged in the forward trajectory of this work (Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Counseling and Psychological Services, Campus Ministry, CSTEP/STEP, etc), and collaborate to build meaningful programs and relationships that support the advancement of the University’s mission in this regard.
